Ossery Falls welding lab doubles its evening sections

Four evening sections start in January, so students who work days can finish the certificate in three terms.

The welding lab at Ossery Falls Campus will run four evening sections this winter, up from two. The change follows a waitlist that passed 60 names in August.

Evening students use the same booths and equipment as day students. Classes meet Monday through Thursday, so a full-time evening student can still finish the Welding certificate in three terms.

Why now

Most students on the waitlist already had day jobs. Several local shops also asked the college for more graduates who can weld pipe and read blueprints.

People kept telling us they could come at six, not at nine in the morning. Now they can.

Dana Whitlock, welding instructor

The college hired two part-time instructors from local shops to teach the new sections. The added booths were paid for by the Calder Creek Foundation.

Seats are open now. Students can apply free and book a shop visit with the program advisor.
